DESCRIPTION:A free one-day professional development programme for music educators\nJoin us for this free professional development programme that provides music educators with the information\, knowledge and contacts they need to advise and support students who seek to pursue a career in music.\nIt’s a one-day seminar for anyone involved in educating or supporting young people making music including: music teachers\, instrument tutors\, and FE and HE lecturers\, plus people working for music hubs and music services\, and talent development\, community music and youth organisations. \nApply for your free place here \n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n09:00 AM Introductions \n09:30 AM Mapping Music-Makers + Music-Maker Careers\n\nPathways Into Music has been mapping music-makers and music-maker careers. In this session\, we’ll look at all the different professional music-makers involved in composing\, recording\, producing and performing music\, and will explain why most of those people are also entrepreneurs running their own creator businesses. We’ll then consider the career pathways taken by both ‘frontline artists’ and ‘portfolio musicians’\, and what young people need to know to embark on those journeys. \n\n\n10:00 AM Music Industry Quiz \nThe ‘music industry’ is simply all the people and companies who help professional music-makers to find an audience\, build a business and make money from their music. There are many strands to the music industry. We’ll explore who the key people and companies are\, and what role they play\, via our music industry quiz. \n\n\n11:15 AM Break \n11:30 AM Mapping the Music Industry + Music Industry Careers \n\n\nPathways Into Music has been mapping the music industry and music industry careers. In this session we’ll explain how the music industry is structured around artist revenue streams\, with different people and companies focused on different revenues\, including rights\, live performance and the fan relationship. We’ll then look at the different career pathways in the industry and what young people need to know to embark on those journeys. \n\n\n12:15 PM Q&A \n12:30 PM Lunch \n\n\n01:30 PM Knowledge Bank: Making Money from Music Copyright \n\n\nA key way that music-makers generate income is by creating and monetising copyrights. Which means anyone pursuing a career in music needs a basic understanding of how copyright works. Tapping into the Pathways Into Music Knowledge Bank\, in this session we’ll run through the five key facts everyone needs to know about copyright. \n\n\n02:30 PM Artist Team Brainstorm \nWhen big name artists play live\, there are hundreds of people involved in delivering the show\, and the releases and marketing surrounding the tour\, the vast majority of whom are hidden from view. We consider what all those people are doing – identifying the team members and business partners artists need\, and the many behind-the-scenes roles in music that young people may want to pursue. \n\n\n03:15 PM Tea Break \n03:30 PM Knowledge Bank: Release Tracks \n\n\nWith a plethora of digital tools now available\, it’s relatively easy to record and release music\, and many young music-makers embark on this journey early on before connecting with the music industry. Tapping into the Pathways Into Music Knowledge Bank\, we explain what releasing tracks involves\, and how DIY artists can get the most out of the experience\, creatively\, commercially and in career terms. \n\n\n04:15 PM Q&A \n04:30 PM Finish
