West Sussex Music’s talented teams
Spirits soared along with the temperature over the weekend, as two concerts took place to celebrate the work of the young musicians from West Sussex Music.
Both events took place at The Assembly Hall in Worthing on Sunday 13 July.
In the afternoon, the junior and training groups from four of the West Sussex Music Centres had the chance to show what they’ve been working on this term to family and friends.
The concert featured the following groups – Drum Lab, Young Voices, Horsham Junior Wind Orchestra, Junior Orchestras, Chichester Youth Orchestra & Worthing Youth Orchestra, West Sussex Training Wind Orchestra and West Sussex Training String Orchestra.
They performed a range of pieces from Singing In The Rain to Born To Be Wild, all gaining a great response from an enthusiastic audience.
Later in the evening, it was the turn of West Sussex Music’s County Ensembles, who all performed a wide variety of works from composers such as Vaughan-Williams, Jennifer Lucy Cook to Billie Eilish.
The concert included performances by West Sussex Youth Orchestra, West Sussex Youth String Orchestra, West Sussex Youth Wind Orchestra, and West Sussex Youth Choir. It also featured the debut of the 2025 Tomorrow’s Orchestra. Over 130 youngsters, who started on the TOP25 programme for beginner instrumentalists in the spring, performed as a massed orchestra – starting with the Can-can, moving on to Timber and finishing with the Loony Tunes Theme. They brought the house down.
John Randall, Music Centre’s Manager at West Sussex Music, said:
“It was real joy to hear the performances from all our groups and see the progression as they make their way from the music centre ensembles to the county ones. Everyone performed incredibly well – there were a lot of proud friends and family members in the audience!”
