Exploring Creation Myths, Classical Music and Composition with Glyndebourne

17 July 2023 @ 4:15 pm - 6:00 pm

Join Glyndebourne for a free creative workshop for teachers working in music and drama education in Sussex. The workshops are available to primary and secondary educators, and will give a flavour of the workshops we will be running in schools in the autumn term as part of our Singing Schools project with Key Stages 2/3. The session will be led by renowned composer and conductor Howard Moody and Glyndebourne opera singer Jennifer Witton, who will workshop ways of creating new music as a group, alongside learning classical music by ear. Participants will be introduced to the music of Haydn’s ‘Creation’, its themes and dramatic ideas, and by the end of the session will have worked collaboratively exploring concepts such as leadership, composition, plotting, scene setting and sharing.

The project will provide a range of experiences for the participants, including:
• Exploring operatic repertoire in an accessible way
• Working with Glyndebourne artistic teams and singers
• Exploring techniques for leadership, vocal health, performance
• Creating new songs that are inspired by creation myths
