Music education conferences – registration open!

A Group Of People Are Sat In A Conference

Free places are available to attend two music education conferences in Sussex, both of which promise to be inspirational and informative.

West Sussex Music is delighted to invite all those working with children and young people in school settings to these all-day events:

Sussex Secondary Music Conference at University of Sussex on Thursday 19 June

Powering up Creativity, Collaboration and Innovation across the Music Curriculum

Hosted by the University of Sussex in collaboration with West Sussex Music and Create Music, this FREE, one-day music education event for secondary music teachers at all stages of their careers, working in schools across Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex and University of Sussex partnership schools.

Keynotes are from Professor Martin Fautley on assessment and progression in the secondary music classroom, and Professor Simon Purcell and Pauline Black on “grooving” in your classroom. Workshops will include a focus on music technology including pathways at KS4 and beyond; creative use of AI; diversifying the KS4 curriculum; singing in the KS3 classroom; improvisation in the classroom – easy wins; and embedding musical assessment.

We will also consider the potential for music within, and more broadly across, the wider school, together with opportunities for collaborative working.

West Sussex Primary & SEND Music Education Conference at Christ’s Hospital on Monday 30 June

Set in the breath-taking surroundings of Christ’s Hospital, Horsham, West Sussex Music is thrilled to invite all professionals working with children and young people to join us at our Primary and SEND Music Education Conference.

Responding to requests from schools, we have planned a day that will give delegates everything they and their schools need to power-up music both in and out of the classroom.

  • Expert-led workshops: learn from nationally and internationally acclaimed music education experts.
  • Diverse topics: explore inclusive practices, the latest in music technology, ensemble participation, instrumental learning (djembe, recorder, ukulele), conducting, composing, and more.
  • Hands-on learning: engage in fun, practical sessions designed to inspire and equip you with new skills and resources.
  • Delicious food & networking: included in the day, mouth-watering meals and beverages for you to enjoy while connecting with like-minded colleagues.

By popular request, we are thrilled to welcome Ben Sellers. Ben has become one of the UK’s leading specialists in inclusive music education.

The conference will culminate in an inspirational fusion of samba, voices, and instruments—an easily adaptable music experience ready for teachers to share with their pupils and school colleagues and a fitting end to what promises to be a very special day.
