West Sussex Youth Choirs

Singing together in harmony
Our choirs offer talented singers opportunities to develop their singing, build the skills needed to sing in a choir, learn beautiful choral music and to have fun along the way.

Led by musical director Sarah Forbes, sessions are dynamic and creative offering singers a chance to explore their voices, build their confidence and discover the joy of singing together in harmony.

West Sussex Youth Choir

West Sussex Youth Choir is a mixed-voice choir for experienced singers aged 13-18 years. We learn large-scale choral works, with opportunities to perform with an orchestra, as well as lighter and more contemporary repertoire.

An ability to read music isn’t essential and sessions offer a chance for singers to build their skills and confidence with a focus on having fun and being creative. Singers with changing voices are supported during rehearsals as they find their new tenor and bass registers.

Who can join?  If you are in year 9 or above, you can get involved following a successful audition

West Sussex Young Voices

West Sussex Young Voices is a treble voice choir that provides younger musicians, aged 9-12 years with the foundations they need to become outstanding choral singers. This includes learning to sing in parts, music reading skills and developing their individual voices. No previous experience is necessary, just a love of singing and a willingness to learn

Sarah Forbes

Director of West Sussex Youth Choirs

“My name is Sarah and I can’t wait to welcome you to the West Sussex Youth Choirs. I have loved singing ever since I was a little girl and want everyone to be able to experience the joy of coming together to sing in harmony. Our choirs are for anyone who loves singing just like me. I will help you to develop your singing voice and teach you some absolutely amazing music, sometimes performing in beautiful venues or with an orchestra. You will also be part of a community of people who love singing just like you and make some new friends along the way.”

Sue Graham-Smith

Accompanist

“Having been involved as accompanist to the Youth Choir for several years, it’s lovely to see young people growing together in friendship and becoming more confident in their personalities as well as in their singing.  In both Young Voices and the Youth Choir, a variety of musical styles are offered, and part-singing is taught from scratch in a fun and accessible way.  Regular choir performances are given, giving the students a purpose to aim for and a sense of achievement.”
