Create, celebrate, innovate

A free, one day music education event for secondary music teachers at all stages of their careers took place yesterday at the University of Sussex with the aim to power up creativity, collaboration and innovation across the music curriculum.

The one-day conference which took place on Thursday 19 June, was open to all secondary music teachers working in schools across Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex and University of Sussex partnership schools.

More than 90 teachers came to the event which was hosted by the University of Sussex in collaboration with West Sussex Music and Create Music, the first event since it was announced that the two will be deepening their partnership as consortium partners in the Sussex Music Hub.

James Underwood, Chief Executive for West Sussex Music said,

“It’s always exciting when people get together who are passionate about developing their knowledge in delivering music education in their school. We hope that the conference will have provided opportunities for inspiration, networking, and reflection for everyone who attended. My thanks go to the University for generously hosting the event.”

With keynote speakers and workshops focusing on a wide range of subjects, such as changing the culture of singing in the classroom, the role of assessment, diversifying the curriculum, the role of AI in music education, and growing a thriving musical eco system in your school, it was a busy day!
