Alex holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music (Performance) from the University of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada and an MA in Music and Sonic Media from the University of Sussex. During his career, Alex has been very fortunate to collaborate with singers, pianists, orchestras, and recording artists.
Alex is a musician, composer, and sound artist with over 15 years of teaching experience with all age groups and many different class styles. He has worked with children his whole life, starting as a student teacher for one of his own mentors, working his way up as a music instructor for young musicians programmes, and even spending time as a nursery/preschool assistant. The core of Alex’s teaching is that learning can be accessible, and practice can be fun! Alex strives to build the foundation blocks of wholesome learning and musical enjoyment also that students can learn in a healthy environment.
Alex’s hope is that his students can enjoy learning music as much as he enjoys playing and singing. His specialty is teaching piano to beginner students and he excels at coaching young students with focus and motivation. Alex has also worked with exam coaching and high level piano training for university auditions as well as tutoring. One of his great personal interests is composition, and he likes to have students experiment with creating their own sounds. Much of Alex’s teaching includes mirroring or repeating musical phrases as well as having students watch what is happening with their hands to learn movement.
