Jessica began her training at Chetham’s, where she studied with the Danish flautist Gitte Sorenson. She went on to study for a BMus at Trinity College of Music, where she studied with Karen Jones and Ann Cherry. She currently teaches alongside freelance performance work, both solo and chamber music, and performs regularly with Kingston Philharmonia. Jessica has a special interest in SEND education and is passionate about access to music for all.

Skills & experience

Jessica is a classically trained musician specialising in flute and piccolo tuition with the ability to teach piano and the full range of the recorder family. She has a thorough in-depth knowledge of wide range of musical genres including popular music and global music. Jessica has extensive teaching practice over two decades, teaching students from preschool to retirement and beyond and benefitted from specialist on-the-job training dealing with mental health issues in children.

Jessica has extensive experience of independently entering students for exams using ABRSM and Trinity College London syllabuses and has the ability to teach associated aural, sight reading and theory for Grade exams up to and including Grade 8. She is able to teach composition to a high standard, both to knowledgeable and novice musicians. She has experience of preparing pupils for Edexel A-level and GCSE exams, both academic and practical preparation. Previous pupil successes have included distinctions at Grade 8, ATCL diplomas and entries to specialist music conservatoires and universities.

Jessica has experience of pastoral care, with a specific interest in the care of children suffering from anxiety and depression. She aims to inspire and encourage students to achieve high standards with a strong focus on supporting and encouraging individuals to reach their full potential.

Jessica is a caring, compassionate teacher with a focus on pupil-first learning styles. She is able to create and innovate in order to personalise learning programmes to suit individual needs and requirements. Jessica advocates for a life long love of music and passionate about enabling access to music for all.
