Sian has a music degree and is a qualified class teacher and instrumental teacher with over 30 years of classroom, group and individual teaching experience.
Upon leaving University, Sian pursued a career as a primary school teacher and was the music coordinator at primary schools in Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire. After a career break to start a family, she returned to teaching with West Sussex Music. Initially Sian taught violin and viola and thereafter taught singing in individual and group lessons. She did some instrumental class teaching and currently teaches piano and keyboard in primary and secondary schools in the Mid Sussex area.
Sian’s teaching ethos is that lessons should be accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable whether the student is working towards an exam, a performance, or playing for enjoyment. She thinks it is hugely rewarding to help children realise their musical potential and for them to recognise this. Sian’s aim is that by developing listening skills, composing, performing and technical skills, she can support young people in developing their love of music.
