Instrument Hire

We have a range of musical instruments that, subject to availability, can be hired to West Sussex Music pupils at low cost, or free to those in receipt of benefits related free school meals. Non-West Sussex Music pupils may also apply for hire.

If your child is a new starter and you would like to hire an instrument, you will be emailed with details of how this can be done, once your lessons have been confirmed. This information will come through to you from, with 'Start Date Confirmation' as the subject line.

If you would like to hire an instrument and your child is not a new starter or is a non-West Sussex Music pupil, please click here to complete our instrument hire form.

Returning an Instrument

Should you no longer need your instrument, or your child ceases lessons with West Sussex Music, the instrument must be returned. Please complete the instrument return form and place this inside the instrument case. The instrument should then be given to your West Sussex Music teacher or returned to the West Sussex Music office at The College of Richard Collyer, in Horsham.

Funding for Musical Instruments

For those who would like to own, as oppose to hire, an instrument, there are a range of funding options available:

Creative United's 'Take it away' scheme away aims to make musical instruments more accessible by providing an interest-free loans scheme which can be used to buy an instrument at one of 130 music shops across England and Northern Ireland.

Organisations such as EMI Music Sound FoundationAwards for Young MusiciansFuture Talent and The Westdene Fund offer grant funding towards instrument purchase. While the Assisted Instrument Purchase Scheme will save you a further 20% off the price, wherever the funding comes from.

And, Horsham-based charity, Music for All’s mission is to get as many people involved in music as possible, and they do this by providing advice and financial assistance, as well as donating instruments.
