Director of Education & Skills, West Sussex County Council
Following a successful career in schools, school improvement and advisory work in local education authorities in the UK, Paul was appointed HMI and worked in Ofsted between 2022-2005 as Senior Manager co-ordinating the evaluation of national policy in primary and early years education. Paul’s professional background as musician, teacher and Music Adviser continues to drive his commitment to promoting and supporting music and the arts. After a period of leading major reform in primary education UK as National Director of the National Strategies, Paul spent ten years working internationally on embedding sustainable education reform across the Middle East and North Africa including post conflict zones before returning to the UK and taking on the role of Director of Education and Skills for West Sussex County Council.
Paul represents the local authority on the Music Hub Board and remains passionate about broadening access to music and the arts for all children and young people. He has focused his career in working to improve opportunities for those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. He is an avid writer and pianist.
