SENDsational workshops

Fifteen children and young people aged up to 25 years old have had the chance to perform as part of a SEND focused orchestra in Horsham and Worthing.
Following on from the success of Orchestras Inc, West Sussex Music’s SEND friendly orchestra in Horsham, another opportunity opened in Worthing during July.
Orchestras Inc. is the organisation’s incredible SEND music group and is open to children and young people with additional needs, including those attending special schools, those at mainstream schools or colleges with additional needs and those who are home schooled.
As well as having the opportunity to explore sound through a range of musical instruments on a weekly basis, there were performance possibilities when Orchestras Inc. joined with other groups from West Sussex Music. In Horsham they performed the West Sussex Youth Orchestra, and in Worthing they used their two sessions to perform and compose creative responses together.
Alison Sutton, Assistant Head and Inclusion Lead at West Sussex Music, said,
“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to extend our SEND music group to a second location, and the response is that it’s been really appreciated – I’m delighted that even more young people across West Sussex can access this wonderful opportunity. Whilst It’s so rewarding to see the confidence of our young musicians grow through the term it’s just as rewarding witnessing the developing community as young people, parents and carers get to know each other in this supportive and creative environment.”
The group is open to young people from key stage 2 upwards to under 25 years old with a parent or carer for support. No previous experience is required and equipment is provided.
The next Orchestras Inc. Sessions will be announced shortly. For more information go here.
