Last week the West Sussex Music team played host to a group of Early Career Teachers (ECT) with the aim of upskilling and building confidence.
The primary school teachers came from schools across the county and took up the invitation by the West Sussex Music CPD team for this music training.
Teacher training covers many important areas, but sometimes music training can be very limited, and recently qualified teachers can arrive in teaching posts lacking confidence in teaching music in the classroom.
West Sussex Music is aiming to plug that gap, with informed, accessible music training for early career teachers, at no cost to the individual schools.
Jane Swindells, Primary Curriculum Manager at West Sussex Music, said:
“We had a fantastic day of training for Early Career Teachers. In the morning, we learnt to play glockenspiels and, in the afternoon, composed and sang. Well done to everyone who took part. All left up-skilled and up-lifted.”
Further training sessions are planned for early career teachers, as well as those more established but looking for inspiration and confidence in music teaching.
