Inspiration was in the air when 60 children and young people took part in musical holiday activities organised by West Sussex Music over the Easter break.
The holiday activities took place across West Sussex and included rap and lyric writing at the Phoenix Centre in Bognor Regis, where they learnt creative writing, rhyming and rhythm; recorded a song as part of a group; collaborated in singing and song-writing, and had the chance to perform to their peers.
In Crawley at The Mill Primary Academy, the workshop attendees learnt the fundamentals of music through DJing; music production and composition; use of decks and live performance technology; the use of tempo, pitch, texture, and rhythm and, how to create their own beats, and compose songs.
Over in Worthing at the Northbrook College, young people aged 11-16 came together in bands as part of the Play In A Band workshop. During the workshop the young people formed their own bands, collaborated with other musicians to work on covers and original songs, and developed skills in song arrangement, stage presence and live performance techniques.
Elizabeth Leondaritis, Contemporary Music Manager for West Sussex Music, who oversaw the activities, said: “It’s so good to be able to offer these opportunities to children and young people across West Sussex. There are so many talented young people who came to our events, ready to learn new skills and create music in a safe and encouraging place.”
More holiday activities will take place during the summer holidays.
