Bumper conference!

West Sussex Music launches inspiring Primary and SEND Music Education Conference 2026.

West Sussex Music is delighted to announce the return of its much-anticipated annual Primary and SEND Music Education Conference, taking place on Thursday 9 July from 9am to 4pm at Haywards Heath College.

Set within the college’s modern, welcoming environment, the conference invites teachers, school leaders, music specialists and all professionals working with children and young people to come together for a day of practical learning, fresh ideas and creative inspiration.

Responding directly to feedback from schools and partners, this year’s programme has been carefully designed to equip delegates with the tools, confidence, and creativity to strengthen music provision both in and beyond the classroom.

The day will feature a rich programme of expert-led workshops delivered by nationally recognised music education specialists. Sessions will explore a wide range of inclusive and engaging topics, including DJing, classroom orchestras, singing – from first steps through to exploring cultural diversity – innovative approaches to supporting SEND pupils, and composing activities designed to build confidence and spark creativity.

Jane Swindells, Primary Curriculum Manager at West Sussex Music, said:

“We know how powerful music can be in transforming young people’s lives, and this conference is about giving schools the confidence and practical tools to make that happen every day. We’ve listened carefully to what teachers need, and created a programme that is inclusive, inspiring and genuinely useful.”

A key highlight of the conference will be its collaborative finale – an uplifting fusion of voices that offers a simple, adaptable musical experience delegates can take straight back to their own settings, ensuring the impact of the day continues long after it ends.

Alongside hands-on sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the region, with complimentary food and refreshments provided throughout the day.

The conference is free to all maintained schools and academies in Sussex, to Sussex Music Hub partners and associates. Tickets for all other delegates are available at £45 per person.
