Young musicians hit all the right notes during West Sussex Music’s summer holiday programme.
From forming bands and producing original tracks to taking to the stage in a live concert, young people across West Sussex have been making the most of their summer holidays thanks to an inspiring programme of music activities from West Sussex Music.
Over the past fortnight dozens of children and young people have taken part in a range of music activities across the county during the school holidays. Exploring everything from rock and pop performance to DJing, music production and choral singing. Designed to develop musical skills while building confidence and friendships, the activities welcomed young people of all abilities in a supportive and creative environment.
In Worthing, aspiring musicians joined the popular Play In A Band course, where they rehearsed together before performing as bands, giving many their first taste of playing live with other musicians.
Meanwhile, young people interested in creating their own music explored beat-making, songwriting and recording techniques during Rap and Music Production workshops in Bognor Regis and Crawley, developing new technical skills while expressing their creativity through original tracks.
For singers, the two-day Youth Choir Summer Course brought together young people from across the county at Slindon College for intensive workshops led by experienced choral leaders. The course culminated in a public performance at St Mary’s Church in Storrington, where family and friends enjoyed an uplifting concert showcasing everything the singers had achieved in just two days.

It has been wonderful to see so much enthusiasm across all of our activities this year. Whether they were performing in a band for the first time, producing their own music or singing in front of an audience, every participant should be incredibly proud of what they achieved.”
Many of the places were funded by West Sussex County Council’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, helping ensure young people across West Sussex can access high-quality music experiences during the school holidays, with funded places available for eligible families.
West Sussex Music offers year-round opportunities for children and young people to learn an instrument, sing, join bands, choirs and orchestras, and perform in concerts across the county.
