Make music part of summer

Young people across West Sussex are being encouraged to make music part of their summer, with West Sussex Music offering a range of exciting holiday opportunities, including fully funded activities for eligible families and a two-day Youth Choir Summer Course.

Designed with input from young people, the programme offers something for a wide range of musical interests, from rap and music production to band performance and singing.

Whether participants are trying music for the first time or looking to develop existing skills, all activities provide the chance to learn, create and make new friends in a supportive environment.

Free HAF-Funded Music Activities

West Sussex Music is once again delivering activities through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, giving children and young people who receive benefit-related free school meals the opportunity to take part free of charge. Lunch is included for all HAF participants.

The programme includes:

Rap and Music Production – Bognor Regis Music Centre

The Phoenix Centre, Bognor Regis

Participants will explore rhythm, flow, lyric writing, beat-making and music technology, creating their own tracks using professional equipment.

Play In A Band – Worthing Music Centre
27–29 July
Northbrook College, Worthing

Young musicians who have already started learning an instrument can experience what it’s like to be part of a real band, developing performance and ensemble skills alongside other young people.

Rap and Music Production – Crawley Music Centre
27–29 July
The Mill Primary Academy, Crawley

A further opportunity for young people to explore songwriting, rap performance and music production through practical workshops led by experienced tutors.

Places are available to all young people at £39 per day, with fully funded places available through HAF for eligible families. All participants receive a free lunch and earn a Digital Badge recognising the skills and achievements gained during the course.

Youth Choir Summer Course

For young people who love to sing, West Sussex Music’s Youth Choir Summer Course offers two days of inspirational singing workshops in the beautiful surroundings of Slindon College, culminating in a public concert at St Mary’s Church, Storrington.

The course takes place on 23 and 24 July and is open to young people aged 13–18 (school year 9 and above from September 2026). No previous choir experience is required. The course costs £85, with free and subsidised places available for families on low incomes. The sessions will be led by Mark Bradbury and conclude with a public performance on the evening of 24 July.

James Underwood, Chief Executive for West Sussex Music, said: “We know that school holidays can be great moment for young people to explore their musical interests, build confidence and make lasting friendships. We’re delighted to be able to offer such a wide range of opportunities this summer, including free HAF-funded places and financial support for families who need it. Whether young people want to produce beats, perform in a band or raise their voice in song, we’d love them to join us.”

With places expected to fill quickly, families are encouraged to book early.
