More than 270 children had the opportunity to enjoy a live classical concert before the end of term in Midhurst recently.
The children from six local schools were invited to Midhurst Rother College for a performance from Kidenza on Wednesday 15 July. Kidenza is a music charity that brings orchestral concerts for children that are packed full of fun and are never stuffy! The organisation is a partner of West Sussex Music and a member of Sussex Music Hub.
Leading audience singing participation was Emily Barden, composer, singer, songwriter and West Sussex Music partner. Each concert culminated with a massed performance of I Am Music – We Travel Entwined.
During the concerts, music such as Holst’s The Planets and Grieg’s In The Hall Of The Mountain King was performed by the orchestra, bringing to life the pieces for the children – many of whom hadn’t been to a concert like it before.
After two concerts for primary schools in the morning, Kidenza stayed on for a workshop with the Midhurst Rother College musicians.
Alison Sutton, Assistant Head of West Sussex Music, who coordinated the event, said:
“We are thrilled to be able to offer opportunities such as this to children and young people in West Sussex. Kidenza and Emily really brought to music to life for all the children present and it was wonderful seeing their reactions. We are so grateful to our funders Arts Council England, The Bowerman Trust and The Boltini Trust for their generous support.”
