Young people across West Sussex have had the opportunity to sing their hearts out as part of an exciting initiative to champion choral singing in schools.
West Sussex Music, along with one of their partners, The Sixteen, are visiting three schools with workshops this month.
This month all secondary schools have had the chance to join one of three Sings Live! workshops with The Sixteen which will introduce students to massed choral singing and repertoire that choirs will learn back at school.
The workshops will take place on Thursday 8 October at Davison CE High School for Girls in Worthing, on Tuesday 13 October at Hazelwick School in Crawley, and on Thursday 15 October at Felpham Community College in Bognor Regis with multiple schools joining together to sing as one.
The Sings Live! programme aims to inspire young people to get involved with choral singing and build their confidence through inspiring opportunities to perform as part of a larger choir.
This month’s workshops have kicked off the project which aims to support choral singing in schools, through inspiring workshops, school visits, and training for schoolteachers, which culminate in two public performances – Sings Live! North and Sings Live! South – in the spring.
Claire Robins, Schools Singing Lead at West Sussex Music, said:
“We’re very fortunate to have the relationship with The Sixteen that we do, and the opportunity to bring them into workshops in schools across West Sussex this month, ahead of performances next year is so exciting. We can’t wait to hear the result!”
