Education & training

After gaining a distinction at 14 in jazz saxophone and a distinction in a classical saxophone diploma whilst studying as a music scholar at Eastbourne College, Tom has gone onto to achieve a high pedigree of saxophone playing across a variety of genres. He has studied saxophone at the music conservatoire in Frankfurt in Germany, as well as Leeds University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music (BMus) in performance with honours. Tom continues to pursue music studies as a skilled conductor and is tutored by some of the foremost conductors in the country.

Skills & experience

Tom’s enthusiasm for teaching was founded at Ardingly College, where he taught music to pupils of all ages for 2 years. He has developed a fun and focused approach to music coaching, ensuring that the fundamentals are implemented into a scheme that supports the students own goals whilst ensuring that the process of music making is fun and rewarding.

With over 21 years of music playing, Tom has established himself as a highly versatile and experienced multi-instrumentalist. In addition to saxophone, Tom also plays clarinet and recorder and used to play guitar and bass in a rock band. He has performed with a large amount of ensembles, with a broad performing career in the UK and abroad. Tom also gives virtuosic solo recitals, and recently performed David Maslanka’s 40 minute saxophone concerto from memory. As a conductor, he has rehearsed and performed with many ensembles around the south east and is a regular participant on some of the most prestigious conducting courses.
