Indian Music for Schools
The musical duo, Kate Hogg (bansuri flute) and Pandit Sanju Sahai (master tabla player) plan to offer Demonstrations, Workshops and Masterclasses in North Indian classical music to school children locally in Spring 2027.

Who is Sanju Sahai?
Sanju Sahai is an internationally acclaimed tabla artist and the sixth generation of the Benares Gharana ot Tabla, a direct descendent of the founder of this style of Tabla. He received his training from his guru, the renowned tabla virtuoso Pandit Sharda Sahai.
Alongside his extensive performing career, Sanju is a highly experienced teacher and educator. He has worked with children, young people and adults through workshops, school projects, educational residencies and community programmes, introducing participants to Indian classical music, rhythm and the rich tradition of tabla. He has been teaching tabla at SOAS University of London for over 30 years, sharing his knowledge, experience and expertise with generations of students.
Sanju has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, the Southbank Centre and the Barbican. His wealth of experience as both a performer and educator enables him to deliver inspiring, engaging and accessible sessions for pupils of all ages and abilities.
He is also a Top Grade Artist of All India Radio and is recognised as one of the leading exponents of the Benares Gharana of tabla today.
Who is Kate Hogg?
Kate Hogg is a bansuri flute player who studied with the master bansuri player, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia in Holland. Kate has also studied with the vocal teacher, Chandrima Mishra at the Bhavan centre in London. She is interested improvisation in general and more specifically how North Indian music and Jazz music can come together. She is a multi-instrumentalist, teacher and improviser. Kate has recorded with Terry Pack’s South Downs Ensemble and Trees, with Hilary Burt’s Blue Calluna, Zone Tumbao, Cloggz and Lewis Harding.
What is the offer?
Pandit Sanju Sahai is a master tabla player who is able to offer masterclasses to drummers in your school.
Kate Hogg is an experienced Music teacher who can work with groups of flute or woodwind players to introduce them to North Indian ragas.
Sanju Sahai and Kate Hogg can offer performances in North Indian classical music to schools individually or as a duo.
Kate Hogg can also perform slow, meditative music for relaxation, based on the Alap section of North Indian classical music, accompanied by a drone.
As experienced teachers in this genre, Sanju Sahai and Kate Hogg can also provide hands on demonstrations to smaller groups (eg. GCSE Music) on North Indian music – raga, tala, drone
These performances, masterclasses, demonstrations will be offered currently at no cost to the school, as the offer is dependent on Arts Council funding through a project grant.
Demonstrations, Hands on Workshops, Masterclasses and Performances last up to 2 hours.
