Making music, trying new things and having fun together – that’s what young people can expect when West Sussex Music’s inclusive SEND music group, Orchestras Inc., returns this autumn.
Following another inspiring year, Orchestras Inc. is back for a new series of Saturday sessions in Horsham and Worthing, welcoming children and young people aged 8 to 25 with special educational needs or disabilities, together with their parents or carers.
The group is open to everyone with additional needs, whether they attend a special school, a mainstream school or college, are home educated, or are not currently in education.
Orchestras Inc. is all about making music together, with young people able to explore instruments, sounds, rhythm and movement in a supportive and welcoming environment. No previous musical experience is required and participants can come along and take part at their own pace.
Alison Sutton, Assistant Head and Inclusion Lead at West Sussex Music, said:
“What continues to strike us is just how quickly the young people make Orchestras Inc. their own. This past year we saw lots of new faces, all trying things they hadn’t tried before, finding ways to communicate through music and, most importantly, having a brilliant time together. There was a real sense of ‘this is my place’, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”
Orchestras Inc. takes place during term time at both Worthing Music Centre, based at Bohunt School Worthing, and Horsham Music Centre, based at Millais School.
