Two exceptional concerts held at Worthing Assembly Hall hit all the right notes when a professional orchestra performed for more than 1000 school children recently and 133 teachers.
Worthing Symphony Orchestra put on two daytime performances for the children on Friday 25 September as part of a programme organised by West Sussex Music.
Children and their teachers came from local schools and included pupils from 21 schools as well as home educated young people.
Designed to introduce Key Stage 2 children to live orchestral music, these concerts provided a unique opportunity for youngsters to experience a diverse programme of music from classical masterpieces to film scores, performed by professional musicians under the direction of John Gibbons, and the response was rapturous.
Alison Sutton, Assistant Head for West Sussex Music, said:
“We are exceptionally lucky to have our partnership with Worthing Symphony Orchestra. For so many children to have the opportunity to listen to live music for free by a professional orchestra is a wonderful opportunity. For many, this will be the first time they have heard this style of music or been in a concert hall.
“It was truly heartwarming to see so many children clapping, humming, and dancing along to the music. The musicians performed a wide range of repertoire and introduced the audience to each of the instruments. There was even a standing ovation! It was really inspiring. These events take time and money, and these experiences were only possible with the generosity of Worthing Symphony Orchestra.”
For audience members this was an ideal opportunity to experience some magnificent music played by Worthing Symphony Orchestra in the stunning acoustics of The Assembly Hall.
