Young performers celebrated

Children, young people, and adults studying Indian classical music in Crawley have celebrated their achievements at a special concert and certificate ceremony, supported by West Sussex Music.

Sur O Bani (সুর ও বাণী), an Indian classical music school based in Crawley, held its concert and certificate ceremony this weekend at The Montefiore Institute at Three Bridges, bringing together performers to showcase their talents.

As part of the event, children, young people, and adults aged six and over sang and performed Bengali poetry, celebrating their progress in music and performance. The performers are all taught by Sur O Bani’s founder, the inspirational Dyuti Gupta.

Sur O Bani is a partner of West Sussex Music and has adopted the organisation’s Records of Achievement to recognise the progress its students make. James Underwood, Chief Executive of West Sussex Music, attended the event to present the certificates.

James Underwood said: “It was a pleasure to join Sur O Bani to celebrate the achievements of its students. Events like this are a wonderful opportunity for learners to share their progress and achievements, build their confidence and take pride in the musical and literary traditions of West Bengal.

“West Sussex Music is proud to work with a wide range of partners across the region, supporting opportunities for young people to engage with music in different ways and celebrating the many forms that musical learning can take.”

West Sussex Music works with schools, music teachers and community partners to help children and young people access high quality, accessible musical opportunities, develop their skills and enjoy the benefits of making music.

West Sussex Music looks forward to continuing its work with Sur O Bani and celebrating the achievements of more students in the future.
