WED 01 JUL 2020

During the last three, extraordinary, months West Sussex Music has been unable to provide the usual range of lessons, ensembles, projects and concerts. We realise that for young musicians, as well as our teachers, this has been a very quiet and dispiriting time, so it is great to reconnect with you and let you know about our plans.

It is likely that opportunities for face-to-face lessons and ensembles will remain limited at the start of next term, which is why we have been working on resuming online tuition.

Online Lessons

We shall soon be contacting all our instrumental and vocal learners to invite students to join us for online tuition. If you would like to resume lessons online, please click here.

Most of our teachers will be back online in September but for those students wanting to catch up during the holidays, some of our colleagues will be offering lessons in August.

The Trust has worked with music hubs around the country and national bodies, such as Music Mark and the Musicians’ Union, to develop our Online Learning Policy.

Virtual Music Centre

The experience of a summer term with no rehearsals, concerts or overseas tour is one we hope never to go through again. We are delighted to let you know that ensemble players will be able to join our Virtual Music Centre starting in September until we can resume our normal rehearsals. We’ll be contacting our ensemble members very soon with more information.

Online WCET First Access programmes

We are preparing a range of online West Sussex Music sessions, delivered by some of our teachers, and resources for primary schools engaging in our whole-class First Access programmes. September’s online provision will prepare pupils until such time as face-to-face sessions can resume, later in the term. We’ll be contacting schools that have signed up for programmes with more information next week.

Virtual Performances

We’ve really enjoyed showcasing our lockdown ensembles over the last few months. It’s been great to see many of our young musicians performing on our Twitter and Facebook sites. If you haven’t done so already, do check them out. A huge “thank you” to everyone that submitted performances.
