Education & training

Fergus’s musical career started by learning the trombone at the age of eight. He then went on to play in school bands and orchestras. As a teenager he began to learn guitar, as well as bass guitar and played in a number of bands with friends before securing a place to study Music and Performing Arts at the University of Brighton.

Skills & experience

Fergus is a highly experienced guitar teacher, having spent the last 20 years inspiring guitarists of all ages to reach their goals. He is especially skilled in recognising the pitfalls and common learning needs of guitarists and providing solutions to overcome these.

Fergus has taught guitar privately and in schools for over 20 years. He has led guitar ensembles, with regular public performances, and prepared many pupils for graded exams, all of whom attained Merit or Distinction for both Classical and Rock and Pop.

Outside of teaching music, Fergus has performed around the world including at a number of prestigious events including the Formula 1 in Singapore and Bahrain. Fergus also has experience as a regular session musician, including performing on Nizlopi’s first album Half These Songs Are About You, cited by Ed Sheeran as a huge inspiration in his early career.

Testimonials

J has really liked his guitar lesson – especially looked forward to it during lockdown. He feels like he has made loads of progress in the past year and I am always pleased to see him pick up his guitar and practice without any nagging from me!    Parent
