Tom first began to learn drum kit at the age of six, with West Sussex Music, and it was thanks to nearly eight years in the West Sussex Youth Orchestra and Wind Orchestra that he realised he wanted to pursue being a percussionist for his career. He is now in his final year of a bachelor’s degree in Percussion (BMus) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This degree has included a wealth of high quality training with teachers who have been at the forefront of the profession, in an orchestral context as well as other styles of percussion and drum kit, and also courses in teaching, workshop leading, and mental wellbeing for musicians.
After graduating, he will be undertaking a Master’s degree, again in Orchestral Percussion, and hopes to go on to become a successful percussionist with the country’s top orchestras.
Tom is also the Principal Percussionist of the Young Musician’s Symphony Orchestra, London’s premier training orchestra for under-25s, following a successful audition in 2021.
