Inspiring strings
More than 50 string musicians joined together to learn and perform in a group on Friday 31 January at in Worthing.
The Strings Day was as a way of inspiring youngsters at a workshop led by specialist string tutors from West Sussex Music.
It was designed especially for young violin, viola, cello, and double bass players from confident beginners up to stage/grade 3 standard.
The workshop was a blend of intense yet calm sessions, with regular breaks instrument specific and orchestral sessions where participants were invited to play a variety of contrasting pieces within the string orchestra, benefiting from the beautiful acoustics of the venue. Pupils also had the chance to play as part of a samba band, honing their rhythmic awareness.
John Randall, West Sussex Music’s Music Centres Manager, said:
“We had such a great time with our fabulous strings players. Their enthusiasm and commitment was clearly evident and it was such a joyous day to be part of. My thanks go to my talented strings teacher colleagues who made the day so rewarding. I hope everyone that attended whose not already part of an orchestra will have been inspired to join one!”
The day ended with a final sharing performance, where families were invited to enjoy the progress and achievements of the young musicians.
