A Chichester based arts organisation has made a generous donation to West Sussex Music for the fourth year running, with funds going towards introducing young people to the joy of making music.
The Arts Society brings arts education and culture to a network of over 64,000 members, and The Arts Society Chichester is one of 300 societies that make up the network.
The team at West Sussex Music were thrilled when The Arts Society Chichester kindly donated £500 to the charity, the fourth annual donation made by the organisation.
With a music centre based in Chichester at St Joseph’s CE Junior School, West Sussex Music will be putting the money towards the Tomorrow’s Orchestra Programme (TOP) that takes place at the centre.
TOP is one-year programme for beginners that combines free instrumental lessons and free instrument loan with weekly orchestral sessions. It has been created as a fast-track route from absolute beginner to confident musician within a few short months. The Programme introduces children to the thrill of playing in an orchestra, of making music with others, and of building self-confidence through live performances.
Christina Wilks, from The Arts Society Chichester, said:
“This is the fourth year in which The Art Society Chichester has been able to support the work of West Sussex Music. The wide-ranging nature of WSM’s provision of musical development to young people in the community across all abilities is the main reason for our support; the TOPs, Orchestra Inc. and Drum Lab initiatives, being but three examples. Future generations need to be supported in the field of music to ensure the cultural health of the nation, this could easily be the poorer without charities such as WSM.”
John Randall, Music Centre Manager for West Sussex Music, who oversees TOP, said:
“Donations make such an impact to us. This money will directly support TOP in Chichester which will ensure children, who may not usually have access to starting a musical journey, now will. Many thanks to The Arts Society Chichester for their generosity and ongoing support.”
