Our bands rock!

A packed audience gathered at The Factory Live in Worthing on Sunday to cheer on the next generation of rock stars as West Sussex Music’s Play In A Band musicians took to the stage.

The showcase celebrated the achievements of young performers who have spent recent months rehearsing as part of Play In A Band, with four newly formed bands – Funky Chipmunks, No Idea, Anemoia, and Indecision – delivering energetic live performances in front of family, friends and music fans. Joining the line-up was last year’s Battle of the Bands winner – Rare Flowers – from Bognor Regis.

For some of the performers, it was their very first experience of playing on a professional stage in a live music venue – an exciting but daunting milestone that they embraced with remarkable confidence.

From managing pre-show nerves to performing under stage lights in front of a packed crowd, the young musicians rose to the occasion, showcasing not only their musical ability but also their courage, teamwork and commitment.

The audience responded enthusiastically throughout the gig, creating an electric atmosphere that made the event feel like a genuine live music experience for both performers and supporters alike.

Elizabeth Leondaritis, Youth Engagement Manager for West Sussex Music, who oversaw the event, said:

“Performing live for the first time is a huge step for any musician. It’s exciting, but it can also be incredibly nerve-wracking. I was so proud of every single performer who stepped onto that stage on Sunday. They showed real bravery, confidence, and musicianship, and the support from the audience made it a truly special occasion.

“Play In A Band is about so much more than learning songs. It’s about building confidence, learning to work together, developing performance skills and experiencing the thrill of live music. Seeing these young people perform at a fantastic venue like The Factory Live was a wonderful reminder of what they can achieve.”

Play In A Band gives young musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform as part of a band, developing their musical skills while making new friends and gaining valuable experience performing live.

With another successful showcase complete, West Sussex Music is already looking forward to welcoming the next generation of young performers to future Play In A Band sessions and live events.
